Our Programs

We take great pride in participating in several grant programs to meet the needs of our students. It is so crucial for our department to provide nutritious, delicious meals and snacks to the children of Richmond County. Sadly, for some of our students, their school meals are the only meals they may be receiving. Consequently, it is more important than ever that we help provide the best proper nutrition to support them both academically and physically.

CEP Program

We are proud to be part of the CEP Program. CEP allows schools located in low-income areas to provide breakfast and lunch at no charge to all students. This eliminates the burden of families having to complete a household application to determine meal eligibility for students. This program was part of the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 and is truly a win-win for students, parents and school staff.

Seamless Summer (SSO)

Studies show that students who don’t maintain a healthy diet when school is out for the summer aren’t ready to learn when school starts. Richmond County Nutrition Services sponsors a U.S.D.A. Seamless Summer Feeding Program. Our program currently oversees 47 meal locations which include schools, churches, recreation and parks departments, and various civic clubs. Summer feeding provides both breakfast and/or lunch meals at participating sites. Meals must meet U.S.D.A. dietary guidelines but are carefully planned to include options our students will enjoy the most.

Farm to School

Richmond County Nutrition Services is proud to support our Georgia and local farmers through school dining. We have participated in Feed My School for a Week for the second academic year. This program is a collaboration between School Nutrition Departments and the Department of Agriculture to provide students locally grown/sourced meals at school and to incorporate daily Farm to School education. Hains Elementary participated in this initiative in the spring of 2017 and Monte Sano has now incorporated the program in October 2017.
