Closest to Thanksgiving

Typically, I talk about my team, but I am sending this message on behalf of my entire team:

Thank you.

In this season of gratitude, we want you to know that we value the support of our families, the appreciation shown by our students, and the hard work of all our vendors, suppliers, and partners. Each of you, in your own way, keeps us inspired and striving to do even more to create a vibrantly healthy community.

We do get some day-to-day feedback. We see full plates and smiles in our cafeterias. We see an increasing number of downloads of our MealViewer app by parents. Families generously share feedback and favorite recipes with us. However, like teachers, we cannot know the long-term impact the meals we serve at school have on young lives.

We can look at indicators that research says are linked to good school nutrition programs: higher test scores, lower absenteeism, and fewer disciplinary problems. I believe there are benefits that are even more lasting. We are helping kids discover better nutritional choices, make fitness a part of their lives, and understand how food can strengthen body, mind, and spirit.

Parents do so much to drive these lessons home. At time, parenting can feel like the ultimate thankless job. Please know that we feel honored to be a part of your children’s lives. You have entrusted us with a mission that really matters. Thank you for all you do to build strong families. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you.
